What is Earthing?
Earthing, also known as grounding, is one of the most basic and powerful things you can do to improve your health. It simply means having direct skin contact with the surface of the earth.
How do you ground yourself?
The simplest form of grounding is to walk barefoot on natural surfaces such as grass, soil, sand, gravel or stone, just as people have done throughout history. Swimming in the ocean or lake also works very well as grounding.
Why don't we ground ourselves anymore?
In modern society, we have isolated ourselves from the ground. We walk in rubber-soled shoes, on asphalt and indoor floors that do not conduct electricity. We also sleep elevated off the ground. This means that we spend most of our lives without any contact with the ground at all.
What happens when we ground ourselves?
When the body reconnects with the earth, something remarkable happens. The earth's surface is filled with free electrons that act as natural antioxidants. When these electrons are absorbed into the body, they help reduce inflammation, improve sleep, and balance the body's electrical system.
Earthing and the science
The book Earthing by Clint Ober, Dr. Stephen Sinatra, and Martin Zucker describes the many health benefits of earthing. Dr. Sinatra, a veteran cardiologist with over 30 years of experience, describes earthing as the biggest health breakthrough of his time as a physician.
Clint Ober's discovery
Clint Ober, formerly in the cable TV industry, discovered the health benefits of grounding in 1998. Together with researchers in electrophysiology, cell biology, and biophysics, he has contributed to the publication of over 20 scientific studies, which show positive changes in physiology, blood chemistry, sleep, and inflammation.
